Members of the Réseau des Femmes organization say they are pleased with the progress and impact of the project SDSR-Rwanda as it addresses the reproductive health–related challenges faced by women and youth.

They mentioned this on Friday, November 28, 2025, after being presented with the achievements of this project, since it began in December 2022.

Santé et Droits Sexuels et Reproductifs au Rwanda (Projet SDSR-Rwanda) is a sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHRs) project implemented by Réseau des Femmes in all 15 sectors of Gasabo District, in partnership with the Canadian organization l’AMIE, with funding from Global Affairs Canada.

The activities of this five-year project are organized under three main pillars: awareness campaigns, advocacy, and the provision of SRHRs services.

Among the achievements presented to the members are more than 159,973 people reached through awareness campaigns on various reproductive health topics, and 11,794 individuals who received information through the hotline 8011.

127,646 condoms were also distributed, as part of efforts to prevent sexually transmitted infections and teenage pregnancies.

Nayiravugwa Grace, a member from Eastern Province appreciated this progress saying that “We really appreciate that they educate adolescents on sexual and reproductive health because it helps prevent teenage pregnancies as well as sexually transmitted infections.”

“Looking at the figures they showed us of the people who have already benefited from these services, it gives us hope for our youth.” She added.

Members were also presented a reproductive health clinic—Karame Specialized Clinic—which was established at the organization’s headquarters in Gasabo District, Kinyinya Sector.”

Since this clinic began operating in February 2025, 1,061 people have received services.

Mukandoli Thérèse, a member of Réseau des Femmes from the Southern Province, said, “An organisation like Réseau dse Femmes, to see that we have highly qualified medical professionals makes us very happy.”

“This aligns with our organization’s mission to support women and girls, especially the vulnerable ones.” She added.

Members were also informed that advocacy had been carried out on certain provisions in health laws, which has yielded results.

Among the achievements was the reduction of the age of parental consent for accessing health care services from 18 to 15.

It was also noted that safe abortion services have been decentralized to health centers, although challenges remain, such as the requirement that the service must be provided by a medical doctor, and there are still few available.

The Legal Representative of Réseau des Femmes, Mme Xaverine Uwimana, said that presenting these activities to the members of the organisation will help ensure their sustainability.

“The purpose of showing members the progress of the project SDSR-Rwanda is also to think further about ways to expand its activities.” She said.

“The project is extensive, the health services are wide-ranging, and we hope they will grow and be sustainable.” She added.

The activities of the project SDSR-Rwanda focus on youth and women aged 10–24, who are at higher risk of facing consequences related to limited access to reproductive health services.

The project is scheduled to conclude its activities in October 2027, unless another phase is added.
